Bergen County jury awards $1M to woman injured in car accident

Even the best drivers can be involved in a car accident. In addition to ensuring they abide by all traffic laws, drivers must also be aware of the whereabouts and actions of other motor vehicles and pedestrians. In some cases, a driver is unable to take evasive actions to prevent being involved and injured in a crash or collision. This was the case for a Weehawken woman who was involved in a 2011 motor vehicle accident that left her with multiple and painful injuries.

According to court documents, the woman’s car was struck when a vehicle driven by a West New York man crossed the double line and crashed into the passenger side of her car. The accident resulted in the woman suffering painful injuries which forced her to seek both immediate and ongoing medical care. The woman subsequently filed a lawsuit against the driver who she asserted was negligent in causing the accident and her injuries.

The case went to trail and recently concluded with the Bergen County jury siding with the woman and awarding her $1 million. In addition to medical costs, the awarded compensation was related to pain and suffering the woman was forced to endure as well as permanent injuries she has suffered as a result of the crash.

Drivers and passengers who are injured in car accidents often suffer painful injuries that require long-term medical treatment. Even in cases where injuries appear to be minor, soft tissue damage to an individual’s neck and back may require months or years of therapy and treatment. In addition to being painful, these types of injuries are often costly and interfere with an individual’s ability to participate in and enjoy life.
