Aggressive driving results in 1 death, 2 criminal indictments

In recent years, stories about car accidents caused by aggressive drivers have made headlines across the county. When aggressive driving escalates, it’s commonly referred to as road-rage and drivers, who engage in aggressive driving behaviors, put their lives and those of other drivers and passengers at risk of suffering serious injuries and even death.

Two men were recently indicted by a Bergen County jury for their involvement in a 2012 crash that claimed the life of a 63-year-old woman. According to police reports the two male drivers, ages 27 and 20, were engaging in aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors when the fatal car accident occurred.

As the 20-year-old driver attempted to illegally pass the 27-year-old’s car on a right exit ramp, his SUV hit a guardrail. The force of the crash caused the 20-year-old to lose control of the vehicle which proceeded to careen back onto the highway. The out of control SUV then overturned and crashed into the 27-year-old's car which then left the roadway and struck a guardrail.

As the 20-year-old’s vehicle continued to spiral out of control, a 63-year-old backseat female passenger was thrown from the vehicle. She subsequently died as a result of the severe injuries she suffered in the crash.

Both drivers now face criminal charges of vehicular homicide. Additionally, the family of the 63-year-old woman may also choose to pursue legal action. Individuals who have been adversely impacted due to the irresponsible and negligent actions of one or more drivers can take legal action to recover damages related to injuries, medical expenses, lost wages and a loved one's death.
