Princeton, New Jersey, pedestrian struck by car in intersection

On Nov. 5, a pedestrian suffered minor injuries while crossing the street in Princeton, New Jersey. According to police, the 58-year-old pedestrian was attempting to cross Vandeventer Avenue while using the crosswalk when the accident occurred.

Police say that a 42-year-old Princeton New Jersey woman was behind the wheel of a 2005 GMC envoy when her vehicle struck the victim. The SUV was traveling eastbound on Nassau Street and had turned right onto Vandeventer Avenue when the front bumper of the SUV collided with the victim.

First responders transported the victim to the University medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro sometime after the accident. The victim, a resident of Ivyland, Pennsylvania, was reported as having received treatment for an injury to her arm.

The use of alcohol or other driving impairment was not reported by police; however, the driver of the SUV was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Motorists who fail to yield to pedestrians often lead to serious injuries and sometimes, even deaths. Drivers distracted by electronic devices or impaired by drugs or alcohol are responsible for a significant portion of vehicle-pedestrian accidents. These accidents can result in substantial medical treatment and rehabilitation for their victims.

New Jersey pedestrians have a right to use intersection crosswalks without being harmed by careless or negligent drivers. If you are a victim of a preventable pedestrian accident, you may be entitled to recover compensation for your injuries. Although each case is unique, it may be possible to recover expenses related to your medical treatment as well as money you may have missed out on from your inability to work due to injury.
