Helping victims of drunk driving accidents in New Jersey

In an earlier blog post, we discussed how drunk driving accidents negatively affect people throughout the country and also here in New Jersey. In 2012 alone, over 10,000 Americans were killed by drunk drivers. In New Jersey, safety officials estimate that roughly 550 residents die each year as a result of an alcohol-related accident.

The state is doing its part to increase penalties and fines against drunk drivers by requiring the mandatory installation of ignition interlock devices, random roadside sobriety checkpoints and a host of other anti-drunk driving activities. Despite these efforts, some drunk drivers seem to be dead set about getting behind the wheel after they have been drinking.

The results of a drunk driving accident can be devastating. Victims are often killed in grotesquely mangled wrecks while others who survived their accidents often are often left with permanent disfiguring injuries. Even worse, many survivors of drunk driving accidents are left so disabled by their injuries that they are unable to return to work and earn money to support their families.

New Jersey residents have a right to share their roadways with others without expecting to suffer from a preventable and life-altering car accident. Fortunately, our legal system provides for the victims of drunk drivers, and in some cases their families, to sue those responsible for their injuries.
