School bus and truck collide, driver leaves scene

A school bus and a semi truck collided in Middletown, New Jersey, and the results were very different for both drivers. The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene of the accident, and authorities had to go searching for him or her. The driver of the bus, however, was trapped inside the mangled vehicle, and rescue teams had to work to extricate that individual from the wreck.

On top of that, the first response team had to give the bus driver aid by providing intravenous fluids and by administering oxygen. The full extent of the driver's injuries were not given.

It appears from the reports that the truck had been stopped in the street, sitting outside of the liquor store known as Bottle King. The bus then came up to the stopped vehicle and slammed into it. Interestingly, the bus was not driving in the district that it was supposed to serve.

The crash happened on Route 35, right around eight in the morning. The road had to be at least partially closed down afterward, and the southbound lanes stayed that way for more than two hours, as they were still closed at 10:15.

The photos from the scene show the incredible damage to the bus, which is bent downward, with the hood torn off. The crews working on the bus did take off more pieces in their attempts to get the driver out, but it's still clear that the impact did significant damage.

There were no children on the bus when the accident took place.

If you've been injured in a truck accident, especially when the other driver flees the scene, be sure you know your legal rights.
