Man gets DUI charges after accident puts 1 in hospital

A car accident put one person in the hospital after that person became trapped in the wrecked vehicle, and a man from Sicklerville, New Jersey, is now facing DUI charges as a result. The crash happened back on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The man, who is 42 years old, was apparently driving down Sicklerville Road, going east. It was about 11:30 p.m. Another vehicle was coming toward him, going west. It appears that the first man then drifted over the pair of double yellow lines in the middle of the road and slammed into that vehicle in a head-on collision.

While the man who allegedly caused the wreck was able to get out of his vehicle, the other driver was trapped. He had to be freed by emergency crews when they got to the scene.

The trapped driver was then brought over to Cooper Hospital, where he was given treatment for moderate injuries. Despite the seriousness of the accident and his injuries, the medical professionals do expect him to recover.

The 42-year-old man was tested by the responding officers at the scene of the wreck, and they handed down the charges shortly after. He is also going to be charged with assault by auto, possession of marijuana and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

In situations like this, it is all but impossible for other drivers to prevent accidents, as even doing everything the right way does not mean other drivers won't make mistakes that cause serious crashes. When this happens, it's important for the drivers who aren't at fault to know their rights.
