Drunk drivers behave differently than aggressive drivers

Both aggressive drivers and drunk drivers are involved in accidents every year, but studies have shown that there are a number of key differences between these drivers and the way that the accidents happen. Since one may assume that the crashes would be similar, as some people do become more aggressive and/or careless after drinking, these differences are interesting to note. Studies have found that:

-- Aggressive drivers are not as likely to crash, as drunk drivers were part of more accidents in a study.

-- Aggressive drivers are more likely to wear seat belts, while drunk drivers tend not to wear them more frequently.

-- Drunk drivers are typically older than aggressive drivers.

-- Accidents with drunk drivers are more likely to happen at night, while accidents with aggressive drivers are more likely to occur during the day.

Now, there are similarities, as well. For example, one study was carried out over 11 years and found that there was a connection between drunk driving and speeding. Many other factors that can be attributed to aggressive driving can also be attributed to drunk driving. For example, a driver who runs a red light or weaves in and out of traffic could be drunk or simply driving aggressively.

On the whole, though, there are some distinct differences that tend to set these two types of accidents apart.

Have you been injured by a drunk driver in New Jersey? If so, you may be able to seek compensation for the costs related to your injury, including medical bills, lost property, lost wages and more. Be sure you know what rights you have.
