Deadly accident leads to charges for driver in Newark

A man in Newark, New Jersey, is facing charges after being involved in a deadly accident. Police recently reported that they had captured the man, although they did not go into much detail about what that capture looked like or how they were able to locate him.

According to reports, the accident happened at about 3:25 on a Saturday morning. A 25-year-old woman from Jersey City was close to the intersection where Raymond Boulevard and McCarter Highway come together, and she attempted to cross the street. She was then hit by the driver and seriously injured. Emergency services were eventually called and they came to take the woman to a hospital, but her injuries proved to be fatal.

The police do say that the man fled from the crash site, and he's facing charges for leaving the scene of a deadly car accident. He's just 23 years old. After his capture, the court put his bail at $150,000.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, which could mean that the man will face more charges. For instance, if they find that he was at fault for driving recklessly, speeding or driving under the influence, those charges could be added on.

Even if he's cleared of causing the crash in the first place -- if the blame falls on the young woman, for example -- he may still be charged with fleeing the scene.

If you've lost a loved one in a car accident, especially if the person who struck him or her fled the scene and potentially delayed life-saving medical treatment, you may have a right to financial compensation in New Jersey.
