Bar sued after wrong-way crash involving alleged drunk driver

A police officer was allegedly intoxicated behind the wheel, and driving with two other men in an SUV, when he went the wrong way down the West Shore Expressway. He slammed head-on into a truck that was coming the right way. This was at about five a.m. Pictures from the scene show the SUV so mangled that it's unrecognizable.

The driver of the vehicle survived the crash. So did one of the passengers, though he had to be kept in a medically induced coma for around a month since the seat belt cut into him so deeply that it cut his stomach. He had multiple surgeries. He was asleep when the accident happened, saying he woke up just before the crash and saw the headlights from the truck.

Two other passengers in the vehicle were killed.

Now, the family of one man who was killed and the man who was injured have decided to sue. They are targeting the two establishments the men were at right before the wreck. One is the Roselle, a bar, and the other is Curves, a strip club.

Their reasoning is that the bars broke the law by over-serving the driver. They say that it was clear that he was intoxicated and he was given more drinks anyway. According to reports, he had a blood alcohol concentration of roughly three times the legal limit when the accident happened.

A lawyer who is involved with the case also said that the driver may have been drugged while the group was at the strip club.

This case helps to show how many different people or institutions could be at fault when a tragic accident occurs. It can go further than just the driver of the car, and those who have been injured need to know all of the options they have when seeking compensation.
