Lexus versus truck crash causes Route 31 shutdown

When people hear about a truck versus car collision, they often assume that the truck driver was at fault. That's not always the case. However, no matter which driver was at fault, those in the smaller vehicle usually suffer the more serious injuries.

Last month, a 34-year-old New Jersey woman reportedly crossed over into oncoming traffic, striking a trash truck. Police say that she was driving southbound on Route 31 in Washington Township when she moved into the northbound lane.

The 51-year-old Bridgewater truck driver reportedly was not injured. However, the woman, who is from Lebanon, New Jersey, had to be cut out of her vehicle. She was then flown to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Her rescue involved first responders from the Washington Township Fire Department, the Washington Emergency Squad, the Clinton Rescue Squad and Hunterdon Medical Center.

Making the situation worse was the fact that the crash resulted in a spill of 75 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road. The section of Route 31 South where the crash occurred was closed for several hours while the Warren County Hazardous Materials Team cleaned up the spill.

The Lexus driver's condition was not reported after she entered the hospital. Investigators are still working to determine why the woman crossed into oncoming traffic.

An accident with a truck can cause serious and life-altering injuries. If the truck driver was at fault, it's essential to find out what your legal options are for seeking the compensation you need to pay for medical costs, physical therapy, lost wages and other damages. An experienced New Jersey personal injury attorney can help determine who can and should be held liable.
